Imagine if the avengers saga ended with infinity war instead of beating thanos in end game. I do not care if you don't like the game, it's just the majority as to why, is very surface level and this deters writers from even other mediums of story-telling from writing unconventionally In the future because they're afraid of their fans. And that's funny in of itself, writing unconventionally really means writing about real life (and that's funny) because it shows how people seem to almost fear or hate their own real lives(or rather have not come to grips with reality) and engulf themselves in narratives wanting an unrealistic out come of events because real life is lacklustre of these attributes. There's a lot more to talk to about there but for a text post it would be too long.Ĭonclusively, Naughty Dog were ballsy for writing this unconventionally, where the game is a "what you need" rather than "what you want" narrative. There's other points but I just wanted to give a quick discussion against the main points people didn't like about the game. I honestly don't even know where this is forced.

This is because you usually lose something or more to get the revenge. This is because you aren't doing it for the reason they did it to you, you just don't like the of feeling being wronged with no consequence.

(or at least get things to an even understanding and not carrying out revenge). Someone does something to you, you consider wrong and the only way to be at peace is to let it go. And she let her go because she realised this herself, she realised what she lost to try and enact this revenge and this cycle would just continue with lev coming for Ellie and even if Ellie killed lev too I don't think she'd still be mentally content and everything she does would just be a reflection of the hate inside of her. She can't even play the guitar anymore at the end of the game since she lost her fingers which was the only thing keeping Joel in memory and after letting abby go, that was the point highlighting the forgiveness theme. This is evident from the fact that Ellie loses everything and everyone. It's a story of the cycle of hatred and forgiveness.

  • Many people aren't extracting the themes the game has.
  • The game doesn't really care about what the fans want and naughty dog's goal was to tell the story of the last of us not the story of the fans.

Especially, since Ellie was okay with dying. Just Joel doing what he did to Abby's father and how that decision ultimately ruins Ellie's life and then everyone around her(yes, I know the alternative is she would be dead), in combination with all of Abby's friends dying made me feel for Abby a lot. As I played through tlou2 I found myself heavily attached to Abby and lev at the end of it and the scene where we have to fight Ellie as Abby was actually satisfying for me. Joel dying in a "cheap way" I mean how else do most people in real life die? I'm not even saying Joel was wrong for what he did but I'm not saying he was right. Especially since he didn't even do it for Ellie, he just didn't want to lose another daughter, he didn't give af about humanity or even Ellie's feelings.

  • People are still trying to justify Joel's action in a heroic manner(and I'm emphasising heroic here.
  • You play through half the game as her, you go through many emotional events and if it wasn't for the fact I know Ellie's story I would hate Ellie which is why the game makes you play as Abby so it isn't just a simple revenge story against a 1-dimensional "villain". If the last of us 1 was played from abby's perspective you'd just see Joel as a psychopathic killer and you'd hate Ellie in that case.

Joel is an anti-hero and people are seeing him as a hero for some reason.Game bad Abby just isn't Ellie and the last of us is only about Ellie and Joel.Game bad for killing the "beloved" character Joel.I have stayed away from leaks and any review so played it going in blind (which is how you should do these things so you aren't infested with bias).Īfter looking at why people didn't like the game, it was a sea of surface level reasoning. THIS IS A HEAY SPOILER OPINION SO DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED!įinished the game last night and just to get things out of the way.
